Energy Therapy & Bodywork

Patient receiving energy therapyEnergy therapy is provided at the beginning of most treatments to prepare the body for acupuncture, greatly enhancing the effectiveness and healing potential of each session.

This unique service is offered when appropriate to your situation and comfort level.

Energy therapy draws from two famous traditions: Yin Style Bagua and Reiki, both modalities are available.

  • Yin Style Bagua draws from the foundations of Chinese Medicine – the balance of yin and yang and the eight trigrams of the bagua.
  • It utilizes many hand techniques and an understanding of the anatomy of the human body, placing emphasis on connection between the Qi of the practitioner and the Qi of the patient.
  • Specific techniques release tension in the muscles, increase the circulation of Qi and blood, calm the nervous system, and apply pressure or warmth to specific acupuncture points along the course of meridians where blockages and imbalances exist.

Of the branches of Chinese Medicine, energy therapy and bodywork are the oldest and arguably the most influential. Beginning with the instinctive action of a mother rubbing a child’s belly because of a stomach ache, the use of the hands to help the sick has been the first tool of every medical system on the planet.

History/Lineage

Dr. Xie Peiqi was the third generation lineage holder of Yin Style Bagua, a martial and medical tradition based on the Yi Jing or Book of Changes. This lineage arose to fame in the mid 1800s and remained in the Imperial court until the Qing Dynasty’s fall in the early 1900s. Believing touch to be the foundation of all healing methods, Dr. Xie had the following to say “Bodywork is the ancestor and origin of healing without reliance on medicines. The abilities of healing are a natural part of the human being. In fact, every life has regenerative abilities. It is my belief that the regenerative powers of life are truly great and without limit.”

Reiki

The word Reiki is composed of two Japanese words: Rei and Ki. Rei can be defined as an Intelligence (God, Goddess, prime source, the divine, Dao) that guides the creation and functioning of the universe. Rei is a subtle wisdom that permeates everything, both animate and inanimate. Ki is the non-physical energy that animates all living things.

When a person’s Ki is high, they will feel strong, confident, and more likely to stay healthy. We receive Ki from the air we breathe, from food, sunshine and sleep. Ki is the Qi/Chi of China, the Prana of India, the Mana of Hawaiians and has also been called life force or vital energy.

If the flow of Ki is disrupted, then illness or pain can arise. From these definitions Reiki is a healing energy made up of life force energy that is guided by a Universal Intelligence. The practitioner of Reiki simply provides a conduit, or medium through which this healing energy can flow to the patient. The practitioner is not always necessary if a patient learns to be receptive to this healing energy.
